The first full set of scrimmages have shown interesting results. There were a few  things that
came out pretty close to how the pre-season rankings were announced.

Alexander proved they are the top team based on the scrimmage play they had over San Antonio
Memorial . While Memorial is in the mist of a 31 losing streak. It is how the Bulldogs won. They
whipped a team they were supposed too.  Not close calls but by a margin that should be played
by the top team in district.

The Del Rio Rams went at it with San Angelo Central a fairly non ranked team in their district and
not much of a challenge and Del Rio had a hard time winning the game with so much
anticipation of them winning district by many in Del Rio. They played as we expected and holding
on to the # 2 pre season ranking barely.  No longer do they have the the dominating defense they
had with the 12 two way talented players they had before.

Eagle Pass Eagles Had a hard time against San Antonio Highland which is not ranked high as
well in their district and verse Medina a Four A team they only scored on a 80 yard TD RUN by
their talented QB. The rest of the Offense missed changes to improve their game but were
forced to play tough against Medina.  HOlding on to third place on the Pre Season barely as well.

Laredo Nixon Mustangs made the most of their two scrimmages against two very different
offenses. One was against Corpus Christi  Miller who has quick and fast talented players in key
positions held on to a 1-0 victory much to the dislike of the Miller coach whom we felt was going
to have a heart attack on the sideline the way he was upset a team from Laredo could be beating
his wonderful team.

In the second game the Mustang herd were held scoreless until the end when they had a great
drive but the field goal went a bit wide left on a 35 MPH windy afternoon. It was a bad hair day
even for pelones.

The Mustang defense came up big time and time again. If playoff teams ever have one thing in
common is that they have great defenses.  The 2010 Nixon Mustang defense is still going
through some changes here and there but they are getting better each time they play. A fast
rising moving team that could be 4-0 starting the season and then face in week five Alexander.
That is shaping up to be an interesting game if the herd goes 3-1 or 4-0.

United South Panthers took one in the chin with having to face a 3A tough Zapata Team. They got
whipped by the Hawks and it does not get one score in but Zapata got two scores in and that is
not going to be enough in district 29 5A to fight for a playoff team. Both the defense and offense
has to get better quick to make a run for the playoffs for the Panthers.

Laredo LBJ  wow got smoked a bit on the score in a scrimmage format. Much to be worked on
the defense as the coaches are I am sure by now working on it this weekend. The offense
managed to stay in drives and scored twice but their defense gave up 28 and that has to be a
working in progress they need to get going to stay completive in District 29 5 A.
