programs will have as interesting mates for the first games in 29 5A .
For starters everything could change in a heart beat so we try to stay out of the mix until a full
report is issued, but here is what we have so far and most of it the sports analyst at the Sports
wire are chuckling after having talks with their sources. ALL COULD CHANGE like I said in a
heart beat.
The United Longhorns football team scouting sources close to The Sports Wire are buying
season tickets to see United Play. Coach Sanchez has a network set up from his days when he
was at San Antonio Holmes and San Antonio teams prefer to play United over any team in
Laredo always in preseason.
I have known Coach Sanchez since we took a summer class in high school, and since then
there is one thing about him that few understand. He is calculating brainer,relentless in winning
at everything, and most of all he dares you to everything. We won't get into his MOODY ways
that's for another story to be written.
Here are the line ups for the PRESEASON in Football and now we know why LISD moving to 4A
it was about FOOTBALL .THIS IS NOT SET IN STONE schedules could change.
United is playing SA Southwest, SmithValley , MacArthur , Reagan. WTH is the playoffs or what
CELEBRATE UNITED has made it to the fourth ROUND .. gee gotta love the way United is
going to have their season play out. They could be 0-4 before district, but it will be the sweetest
0-4 ever in high school history in Laredo. Coach Sanchez has them he does not really care
about the record . Yea he wants to go 10-0 he wants that feather in his cap, but it's his district
titles and the 3rd appearances that count the most. He optioned out to have a better team by
the time they get to district in 2012 than anyone else maybe Del Rio comes close in district to
having a great lineup in preseason.
Alexander is playing Alice, Zapata, Sharyland, E Elsa, gee networking would have worked
here Sharyland only tops.
LBJ is playing G Portman, Roma, Uvalde, Sinton Sorry all 4A record may look good my look
bad they could be 4-0 0-4.
United South is playing MC HIGH, Cigarroa, Martin, Rio Grande . Mc High is a good test for
the rest of the season.
A NOTE HERE a personal one at best and an observation from my sports analyst eyes. The
loudest screams were heard at United High School when they downloaded the new district . It
meant that United finally got it's wishes fulfilled and will have not one but four nasty, kick you in
the ass, roughest, high-powered DEEEEP Playoff teams they could face ever.
UNITED WON BIG here it only makes United better for the playoffs in 2012 with a returning
quarterback that should have been the MVP of everyone but then again its the SALAS CURSE
not being picked because of political reasons in the voting for MVP . Just like his brother the
Salas should have both been MVP enough said. MOVING RIGHT ALONG.
That is it . What ! WTF ! yea, that's it United wins the preseason match up against their rivals in
5A. I will list the teams in order that I feel won big with the preseason match ups.

No surprise so weep cry scream what ever that is the way the new district for 5A panned out
and here is my pick and I normally wait for the July 4th Weekend to pick my District Champions
for 5A, but after what at best can be described as a black eye on how the two school district did
on each other with this break up. Here are my Spring PICKS for the district and I Will have a
PRE SEASON PIC in my normal July 4th selections.
SPRING PRESEASON picks to win district and make the playoffs in 2012 in UIL Region IV

Here is why I picked them in the Spring to finish in this order.
1.United has Salas back as their quarter back and their make up of the team as it is right now
is good enough to win district.
2. Del Rio scary thought here man do they have all the offensive line coming back, and they
have a kid that can run the ball with two receivers that should make play action very interesting .
3. Alexander Bulldogs gee no matter what I say I will be kicked silly here. First come on they
lost 1, 000,000 seniors . Really a truly rebuilding year for the Bulldogs. I like the new
quarterback so far things can change at Alexander who they pick as their quarterback, but for
now they have a kid that ran their offense in JV like no other. He can run like the wind and yea
maybe a shade better that Swain his throwing ability is not Swain like but good enough. They
have a running back now in Skaggs . Wait not that Skaggs the younger brother will be the
running back . Older Skaggs is now the inside receiver and if he gets there by August he is
going to see a lot of short slants , skinny posts etc .Put the ball in Skaggs hands in the open
field and you get 14 yards average more . Yea, those that just got it got it those that don't here
is a hint. The Bulldogs will have to go to a 65% running and 35 % passing. YEA, they will have
to do a complete change on offense . It's the smart thing to do. If they think they can run from
the spread guess what GET WITH THE PROGRAM going back to Abe Quintania days at
Alexander no Alexander team has gone beyond the 3rd round in the playoffs with a spread .
GET THE HINT NO SPREAD OFFENSE has won the fourth round it has been run offenses that
has won . ALEXANDER has to change their ways be smart change is needed YA enough of the
spread if they did not get it done with Swain no one will on the spread CHANGE to what
championships teams in 5A have known all along RUNNING wins championships in Texas.
4. Eagle Pass Eagle . Gee this is a close one in the spring to call it. It was a close one
between Eagle Pass Eagles and the Up coming United South Panthers . Two things here one
you don't kick Eagle Pass down they have never had two bad seasons in a row . Yea, they
made the playoffs in the fourth slot in 2011 but guess what barely they made it in . It was a
rebuilding year for Eagle Pass in 2011, and few understood it. Now you know it, so it's their
second year rebuilding, and guess what they never look bad the second year rebuilding .
United South could be a player in 2012 into the playoffs . For one the new coach is going to
make it interesting for everyone when they face them. They could upset three teams in 29 5A in
2011. Which are the three teams? I will tell you in my July 4th yearly weekend picks for the
district.
One media in Laredo took exception to how LISD acted on UISD not granting games in the
preseason. I like to think that all games for the fall were off the list . No one knew what the
districts would look like so why pretend your upset . It just turned out 4A where LISD wanted to
play ended up in a district with a lot of teams, and left no room for additional pre season
games. Everyone should have been out there in January calling and making friends across
South Texas in having possible games .
NOTHING was in INK all in #2 Pencil. As far as LISD not playing Laredo 5A schools. Let's all
tone it down. We all now know for sure LISD was tired of not winning in football against th UISD
schools. They have a right to be in 4A that is what UIL says they can play so be it. As far
"LOOK we are playing UISD look at Martin and Cigarroa playing United South." Come on
Laredo sports that follow The Sports Wire are much more informed readers . Stop the
innuendos . Plainly LISD got tired of UISD whipping on them, and they wanted a change and
boy did they get a change .
The City by the Bay is going to have an interesting football season in high school in 2012
because of it.
