Jeffery Writes : Mr. Nuno I now realized you had the story on Jose Cisneros from Laredo Cigarroa, the
young golfers getting scholarships and Derek Hale before anyone in your local Media. I have gone back
and noticed your stories are appearing way before the local media gets them. Now everyone is jumping
on the bang wagon on Laredo Nixon after you started to write about them. This goes on and on. I am
now hooked on how you cover sports and now I am getting the same thing in Austin from your coverage. I
listen to the radio show you were invited to be a sports analyst here in Austin and I paid attention to the
radio show you were invited Tuesday in Laredo. Remarkable work you have created down there in Laredo
. Who needs newspapers all they have to do is find out where your radios shows are and what you write
about to know what is going on in sports in South Texas. After all this two questions . One what is the
best team in the Valley number Two you seem to like Eagle Pass Eagles tell us more about them?

For one thank you for your kind words the check is in the mail.
Jeffery we need Newspapers it's in the fabric of our republic. A nation without newspaper either in paper or
electronic is a nation that would not grow. We must have always a check and balance and the sports
media does that in our neck of the woods.
This is going to be winded to cover what you wrote about Jeffery. Pull up a chair get comfortable put on
some ENIGMA "Mi Culpa" while you try to read my South Texas ENGLISH ..
Yes Enigma's "Mi Culpa" ( I am listening to it as I am writing based on your words)..
Jeffery I am not alone. I work with a network of willing sports journalist that prefer to be journalist and
forget the old ways of private coverage and exclusive fighting to get stories first. Those days all gone
forever. There are still some out there because they refused to accept the change five years ago are
playing catch up now on multi media set ups .
As you noticed I am very regional , yes I cover national news that excite the senses but that is about it I
prefer to be good at one than try to be good at all of them and having to compete against everyone. So I
created a NEWS WIRE just like AP etc. In this case I did not want to be a newspaper or magazine. I have
no features that could propel great viewing numbers on Television. I do have a face made for radio ha ha,
With that said my work is to gather any sports news from South Texas . Which in this case just happens to
be the same as UIL Region IV . How luck\y can I be right!. In the area you have Austin, San Antonio , Del
Rio , Eagle Pass, Laredo, Corpus Christi and the magical Valley. In that area you also have several
professional teams sports . Basketball , baseball and hockey. How great is that. A sports nuts heaven.
So now that you figured out where my coverage is. I have contacts in almost every crack and corner that
send me emails, comments such as yours and direct messages on Facebook , Twitter (several accounts)
and the old fashion cell calls. They love sports just as much as I do but they allow me to use that
information with out cause as sports stories which is what you see or hear through Lrd Sports Wire and
now Laredo 360 Sports Wire. While Lrd Sports Wire is the regional sports news group. Laredo 360
Sports Wire is part of Laredo 360 and I am the sports editor there only but I will carry news from Laredo in
that venue and regional news as best fitted.
There are others I contribute information which is what makes this work so well. No one is fighting to get
the exclusive as much as before. Sports news is now fast paced and has changed since the newspaper
days. Just as television changed how sports news were sent by the thousands so is the new formats we
are using. We combine in fact all three in our coverage . We have video, radio, and straight copy as you
see ON Lrd Sports Wire and Laredo 260 Sports Wire. We have the best of the all three worls and we
share with the media groups that see the advantage of this. Like television stations depend on information
from our groups at times to get updated material they did not have time or resources. The only one ones
that remain true to their species are newspapers. They still talk the talk as newspaper and thats fine now
they seem to get into Pod cast but thats their call. They are trying to get into video as well but that is their
call. In the process they will have to decide at one point in the new future what they are newspapers or
visual media.
The stories you mentioned are so interesting you brought them out. The young man from Laredo Cigarroa
was in fact first mentioned by us last summer in a four piece series we ran. It was seen in South Texas by
over 230,000 times all four pieces combined. They found out not only about young Jose Cisneros but
three other giants the Laredo Cigarroa football and basketball team had. The sad part the number of
views from Laredo was very little compared to the rest of the region. I sent the football coaching staff at
Cigarroa a copy of the four part series so they could provide a copy in their group to any one that wanted
to read about their four giants.
Let me give you a view why I have so many people as you noticed reading my material. Lets take this story
of Laredo Cigarroa Jose Cisneros. A year ago they were trying to get Cisneros to only play football . No
way Jose , he is 6'4" inches tall he a beast in basketball and had helped his team reached the playoffs.
To me this is a story about the coaching at Cigarroa in football. Their head coach is a master student at
the game of football. He is always looking at ways to improve his team one player at a time from middle
school to high school. He set his rules with the coaching staff and brought several new coaches the last
two years that agreed with his coaching style.
They moved Cisneros to receiver . Jeffery ask yourself why would you remove from your offensive line a
6'4" inch tall player . As else where they would die to have someone that size in that position? This player
has skills at other positions based on his athletic ability as basketball star. He can jump , he has big
hands all pointing to being a receiver. Second to move a mountain of a man away from the offensive line
means that the coaching is kicking in. There are now more players with skills showing up at the campus
ready to play and that is all Coach De Hoyos doing. He has sold the program and the kids are coming out
to play and work hard. That means someone somewhere could fill the slot Cisneros left open . Things
are looking good for Cigarroa from that point of view. THey now have players that can play coming up.
No one Jeffery can go from offensive linemen to receiver. It can be done but it takes two or three years. IN
this case Cisneros is a senior. Why did coach De Hoyos agree to this move? The kid can play receiver
and in South Texas he is a foot higher than all of the DB's facing him. It was a weapon not in hiding as the
story goes in today's newspaper but a story that started a year ago and those that cover football knew
about this young man in South Texas. Second there is no secrets in football. Everyone knows who is
playing with whom more after the first series of scrimmages.
I interviewed and took pictures of the four giants at Cigarroa a year ago. That is how news this is. Any
questions.
On the young golfers. Well Sol Medina is now on scholarship at a NCAA Division II . Two of the young
golfers are now at the same NCAA Division II school as freshmen in their golf program. . WHich is packed
with golfers. They will have a golf off each week to see who makes the traveling 10 team golfers . All three
are at Texas A&M International University with Sol Medina on a soccer scholarship. How good is that. OH,
all three are from central and south Laredo . How about that sports fans.
On Derek Hale we ran the story three weeks ago. This is a catcher that can bring it to the plate and hit .
He is also one of the best catchers the story baseball program at Laredo United has produced over the
years. One thing is to get offers another is to figure out which is the best fit for the athlete. Derek's family
and Derek sat down sometime and figured this out. I mentioned on the feature story that was seen
104,500 plus by mainly again everyone else but Laredo sports fan. They just skim right through it. I
mentioned that Derek family has a history of sports. His step dad is a former basketball coach and his
father was a coach that has won a state championship in basketball for Laredo. That is the only state
championship in basketball for Laredo. so Derek had a great support group that picked a university that
will show case his talent for the next two years to the nation. Smart dont you think so.
On the Laredo Nixon Mustang return to glory series in football. It is from a sports analyst that gets me the
story first . I source things out I try to figure things out and then find a story lead in that source of
information. In the Mustangs case. They had a new head coach who at one point was a AD for the school
district but was also the defensive coordinator when the Mustangs were winning championships and
making the playoffs year in and year out. That was the story to follow the whole year. I guess the best
compliment I got was that a television sports reporter sent me an email saying they had not looked at it
from the aspect I was reporting the story from. That they had no idea this was a team to worry about and
now the bang wagon starts. The local media in Laredo starts writing how great they are and they will win
make the playoffs and one said would win the district. I have not gone out that far on them winning district
but I have come close to saying they can be 4-0 heading against powerhouse Laredo ALexander in week
five of the season.
I do not take a picture ask a question or two. I write about stuff deeper in the sport story and that has
many asking to keep doing it that way. I take tons of pictures and post them as you have seen . I take the
time to be around the story not just for one quote I get into the story itself and that is projected in many of
the elements I write about. It is something not seen before in Laredo it is else where but not Laredo. I tend
ask why the media does not cover certain things and for them not to get to close to the subject matter or
you face the possibility of not getting the whole story.
A point made this week when everyone was covering Jose Canseco coming to Laredo to play baseball in a
minor league team. The story not reported on was how the team was attacking the City Council because
the city voted to bring a new organization to have baseball at the new stadium they are about to start
building. Again being to close to the subject matter cost them a story that was part of the whole thing with
Canseco.
To the Eagle Pass Eagles . Are you worried someone from Austin may face them in the 3rd or 4th round in
the playoffs? I am as well concern that yes they take the Eagles seriously in Laredo after all they face
them year in and year out in district. This year they have a great team as well . I was allowed (the first from
my planet Laredo allowed to visit with Laredo Media Sports as well to their training (secret training just
kidding) complex. They have a great number of kids playing in their program. They have a great
quarterback and those running backs just keep coming in year in and year out. Defensively well they are
Eagle Pass they will load up on you and you better be ready to face a war. They will go deep in the
playoffs and yea whip on an Austin team in the process. Just kidding. The playoffs are the last thing the
coaches want to hear at this point.
On the magical valley. To early to say. Even though there are two rankings out I want to wait until the
scrimmages are over to see what is going to happen on the valley. I know San Antonio people are asking
me a lot about the valley. I just do not want to go to far out on their set ups yet as I have in Laredo.
So Jeffery in a farily size nut shell that is just part of what I do with so many others working together.
