Last One Standing In 29 5A From Laredo

District Champions in 2011, Bi-District Champions 2011, Area Champions 2011, Quarter Final Champions (aka 3rd
Round), and now The 2011 John B. Alexander Bulldogs are at the foot steps of being in UIL Region
IV Finals by facing San Antonio  Churchill.

A three game series being played in San Antonio starting Thursday will provide the finalist for the Region out of this
game. A place NCAA & High School Baseball Sports Analyst Nuno Sciaraffa had Laredo Alexander
in his articles in his early assessments in March after watching the play in the Border Olympics baseball high school
tournament.  Obviously that assessment was lost among the chants and delirium of the hard fought
district race and early playoff games.

The match up Sports Analyst Sciaraffa  spelled out on how the two teams in the semi final in region four have one
thing in common. Their one two punch in pitching both teams have is what makes the match up
interesting.  Not so much the top two pitchers Sciaraffa goes on to tell us, but what is at the 3rd game that awaits
Churchill when they face a third game against Laredo Alexander.

Alfonso Rivas pitched early on for the varsity for the Bulldogs and had an impressive outing when I got to see  him
pitch" said Sciaraffa. Sciaraffa goes on to say "They moved him as should be in and out of the JV team
to the varsity over the season, and when he pitched the 3rd game of the quarters you could tell he was getting the
much needed innings pitched the hard way against the top ranked team in the valley and Texas as seen
when he was asked to face McHigh this past weekend."

Indeed, when Sciaraffa wrote after the performance Rivas had in March he turned around to the scouts we invited
sitting next to him and us in the stands that day and said "that is what is going to propel Alexander to the
finals of the Region in May."  Sciaraffa goes on to explain "look Alexander will have a one two punch with Garza and
Maldonado it's the 3rd pitcher that will give them a chance to win Region and how Rivas pitched
today will provide them that much needed 3rd pitcher and no one knows about this young kid yet. Alexander has a
history of playing two out of three call it bad flipping of the coin or whatever they always end up in a
three game series going back years and that is how they will play a three game series across the Region
championships."

As several throughout baseball would contact us about getting scouting issues on the players those that were there
with us that day Rivas pitched would always ask how Alfonso was doing.  They did not forget this
young pitcher would have an impact on the region and most interesting no one knew who Rivas was until Sciaraffa
wrote that series of articles in early March laying the call that Alexander was going to the regional finals.

Alexander is now one step from completing the sweep of teams in the playoffs and making the finals of the region
how it pans out this week will come down to what Sciaraffa wrote about with such fury that Rivas an
unknown factor in many scouts eyes would turn the game of baseball into a thinking mans game.  Obviously young
Rivas was not a starter in varsity during the spring but somewhere in what Sciaraffa saw how he
pitched made him call it that Alexander will make the finals of the region based on Rivas being the third man no one
knew about.  We are there this week how it happens is up to the Bulldogs and Churchill and we "Can't
wait."
