The twist and turns of the rankings for October 25, 2010
Well, no upsets this weekend in UIL District 29 5A. The United
Longhorns continued their high scoring as did Laredo Alexander.
Del Rio comes up big as their athletes one by one are getting
back after injuries.  This week they got back their speed on
offense.  The Bulldogs continue to turn heads with their defense
and their offensive out put remains scoring big numbers.  The
Eagle Pass Eagles scored a win this weekend in Laredo against
the Nixon Mustangs and gave them more than they could handle
with so many players out for the Mustangs with injuries.
The United South Panthers get a W and their season could end
up 5-5 if they play out and win their last two games.

The Twists and Turns of the Rankings for October 17, 2010
Well, things got interesting this week with the Del Rio Win over
Eagle Pass Eagles.  We felt we had the Rankings right for
several weeks on the top three and the Rams coming in third.
While we took a lot of  heat for keeping Alexander second for
some time over Eagle Pass we always felt they were a bit better
not by much than the Eagles. With the defeat this weekend the
Eagles drop to fourth.  The 2010 LBJ Wolves football team set
the school record for most wins in a season and they still have
three games to go. One against Alexander next , followed by
United and will finish against United South. What do you think will
happen? Will they win three , two or one more before the season
ends.  Either way congrats to the WOlves they have done a great
job in 2010 in getting their school record.

Del Rio Del Rio Del Rio sure changed things for everyone and
Alexander had the biggest smile. For United it was business as
usual after their game this weekend. They are taking it one game
at time and remain on top of UIL DIstrict 29 5 A  undefeated.

The Twists and Turns of the Rankings for October 10, 2010

The Longhorns maintained their grip on top of the rankings with
their 60 points offensive outbursts this weekend. Laredo
Alexander had 62 points as well to maintain their #2 rankings.
Both defenses held their grounds.  The Eagles of Eagle Pass
were able to keep Laredo Martin to 7 points and score 35 on the
Tigers and keep the 3rd slot but since there is no tie and just on
the amount of scoring the Bulldogs have produced with their
defense holding teams down by 14 has the tiny edge. NOt by
much but they have the edge in rankings. While on the standings
the Eagles are second in district with their win over the Bulldogs.
The next two slots are the same since we do not have ties Del
Rio and LBJ are close but this weekend Del Rio did win and the
Wolves took a defeat at the hands of CC Winn and dropped
below Del Rio by a tiny bit.

ON DEFENSE only the Eagles of Eagle Pass held Laredo Martin
to 7 points.  The Bulldogs again had a great defensive game.
Laredo United Longhorns had a shout out while scoring 60
points.  Del Rio allowed over 20 points against United South.

The Twists and Turns of the Rankings for October 3, 2010
Well, the changes continue by a hair a bit.  While the top two
spots are separated by a hair until the meet in the end of the
district run. Laredo United Longhorns and Laredo Alexander are
too close for comfort after the power rankings and all the polls
and analyst came through with their say so.  The Horns got the
edge they are undefeated where it counts this time in the football
season half way point and undefeated.
Since we have no ties in rankings based on a hair the Horns take
first and the madness follows after that.
Laredo Alexander slip to # 2 is  just a notch  The Toros with that
one defeat as we said two weeks ago when they get one defeat
they will drop and in this week they drop to # 5 based on what we
saw how they played so far.
The Eagle Pass Eagles are on the situation with Alexander.
Having a victory over Alexander and being ranked one notch
below is what it is. In the end the Alexander get the notch based
on several things. One their offense and their defense how it
played Saturday in the second half holding down a UIL District 29
5 A team to negative yards in the second half gave them the
edge. But a notch . Both The Eagles and Bulldogs will meet again
in the playoffs may they find a neutral site.
The Wolves just keep winning when they have to with good
defense and enough offense . Here comes the next several
games that will determine if they are contenders for one of the
district playoffs spots.
The Laredo Martin Tigers with a convincing win Over CC Winn
move up two slots and ahead of Laredo Nixon as well. The Tigers
are on a roll with their new old offense.
The Laredo Nixon Mustangs just keep getting deeper in the
rankings. They had to handle two key missing players in their
second half against Laredo Alexander. They lost highly recruited
sophomore # 54 Erick Fernandez on the D line. Once he was
gone almost for three quarters Alexander had more running room
and Laredo Nixon was forced to make changes on the O line.

THE MADNESS OF THE RANKINGS for September 20, 2010
Well  the changes started.  By it's record being undefeated you
have the Laredo Cigarroa Toros ranked # one in Laredo and UIL
District 29 5A. Then from there it gets interesting.

We ranked Laredo Alexander second with their shoot out victory
over Del Rio in Del Rio. This left us with ranking Laredo United
3rd based on their victory over the Eagle Pass Eagles in Eagle
Pass.  Since we do not have any ties on the Lrd Sports Wire
News Rankings this would have been real close to pick between
the Alexander and United as a tie. While Alexander has the
mystical one over United for their victory over them a year ago.
Until they meet again at the end of the season. Something we
wrote about early on in July and early August that the winner of
that game will determine the final positions for the Playoffs.

Having a defeat by each Del Rio and Eagle Pass Eagles forces
them to the fourth and fifth slot in our rankings.

All a tie consideration but since we do not carry ties we just listed
them back to back. Both teams came out this weekend with a big
scoring game against Laredo's high powered offenses.

We followed up with the LBJ Wolves in sixth place after their win
this weekend.  Followed by Laredo United South CCWINN and
Laredo Martin.

THE MADNESS OF THE RANKINGS for September 19, 2010
As we mentioned this is going to be week by week and the
changes are going to be dramatic in nature and some teams with
just one defeat can drop several places.  The same can be said if
one win depending how they play and against whom can change
directions quickly.
The skinny this week was tough. There were great games all
weekend long. Starting with the Eagle Pass Eagles against the
Alexander Bulldogs.  The Eagles won the difference was a
defensive interception taken back for a TD.   The other two close
games were Cigarroa against Martin and Laredo Nixon against
CC Winn in Eagle Pass.  The wins changed the standings.

The most obvious is Del Rio . All the sports analyst at Lrd Sports
Wire News were waiting for the Rams to get their start players
back as it was they were still undefeated without them. Now
slowly they are getting the players back and proved that they are
now contenders with a team getting better.  They are clearly
better than at this time and a very close match up with the Eagle
Pass Eagles. You ask the Eagle Pass watchers and they are also
concern with Del Rio. They do not come out and say Eagle Pass
is going to win there is concern in their words. We took that and
the way both Eagle Pass Eagles and Del Rio play in 2010 and
"right now right now" the Rams have a slight edge if any over the
Eagles.  We do not put ties on our rankings if we did they would
be tied with Eagle Pass . So the second place ranking for the
Eagles is just that a second by a hair.  There should not be to
much read between # 1 and # 2 this week.  Until they meet will it
be settled who is better as it should be on the playing field.

Laredo United Longhorns are improving after that defeat they
faced against Smithson Valley in their first game. Each game after
that you get to see the weapons United has and the brilliant play
of Senior Joey Zepeda continues to give power the # 3 ranking
the Longhorns have.  Yes even over Laredo Cigarroa who have a
better over all record and are tied in district play with the same
amount of wins in district. But clearly Cigarroa is not in the same
class yet with the Longhorns.  Until they meet will they settle the
margin between them. For now The Longhorns of Untied have
the #3 ranking.

Laredo Cigarroa Toros are undefeated in 2010 after three weeks.
They are 2-0 in district against Laredo Nixon and Laredo Martin.
While the Martin game was expected to have a "W" for the Toros
the eye opener was the victory they had over Laredo Nixon. Yes
it was a thriller until the end and clearly they matched well or the
same but in the world we live in "W's" count and Cigarroa won.
They are ranked #4 because of the the undefeated nature and
the 2-0 clearly they are but Laredo Alexander is in the mix.

Laredo Alexander Bulldogs. Clearly they are a better team over all
than the Cigarroa Toros on paper and "right now right now" paper
does not count.  The defeat the Bulldogs took in district against
the Eagles was by far a near miss if you want to call it. The
Bulldogs defense is for real they only allowed 14 points their
offense gave up 7 points on an interception. Since the Bulldogs
did not get obviously the "W" they have to for  this week be
ranked #5.  Things will change in the end the Bulldogs will be in
the mix of the final four making the playoffs but for "right now right
now" they are ranked #5 because of that.

Obviously the rankings have changed. The awaited return of the
returning of all district players Del Rio had out due to preseason
work out injuries was holding them back but they are undefeated
as well and undefeated in district play . You ad the same stuff to
Eagle Pass Eagles and your in a mix like we said we do not do
ties in the rankings.   Both should be could be casi are ranked # 1.

Clearly as much as we would like to state it there is no team in
Laredo so far that has beaten Del Rio or Eagle Pass Eagles. With
that how can you rank a Laredo team over the two impossible to
say the least.

Until both get beat by someone other than when they face each
other Laredo teams are left to fight for two slots in the playoffs
among all the 7 teams.  A task slowly each week shaping up who
has it and who does not. For now 'right now right now"  you have
a mix Longhorns, Bulldogs, Toros, Mustangs are clearly in the mix
for the final two slots.

But we will see what happens this district in Texas we cover is
one of the most difficult to win a play off slot. It is surely playing
out so far this 2010 High School Football Season.
