"2010 High School Football Region IV Preview"
By Nuno

We are a month away from generating Texas High School Football, and
the anticipation is itching at us each day that goes by.

We will carry a continual coverage of all Of UIL Region IV Football starting
today. Here are some things I am looking at that has my eye,and attention.

Week ZERO has one match up that we have to look at just because
sooner or later in the 3rd round or fourth round in the playoffs , you will
face a San Antonio team.

In week ZERO the match up is interesting San Antonio Wagner Vs San
Antonio Reagan. Reagan is home on this great early look at both teams.
While most 5A pre-season have Reagan ranked in the top 25. This game
will go a long way to see what is coming to the playoffs in November.

Week ZERO closer to home in UIL District 29 5A five teams are sitting this
week off. Worry about this. Let me tell you why. Look at who had spring
football of the following teams with no game in week ZERO.

Laredo United Longhorns, Laredo United South, Laredo Nixon, Laredo
LBJ, and the Eagles from Eagle Pass. All five teams are in the same
district. Friends thats an extra week of practice than the rest of the teams.

Of the five teams only Eagle Pass did not have spring football. That
means they have not only one extra week of August practice time. But
they have one extra week of practice as the season starts.

Eagle Pass has not had spring football since the 80's, and year in, and
year out they are in the playoffs.

The five teams also will get to see Del Rio, and Alexander play one game
before anyone. How much do you consider the five teams will have a full
set of coaches at those two games scouting? I would safely say all five.

Take it now to WEEK ONE of the Football Season.

The match up in Laredo if you are a true Football fan will want to be at
this game.  Laredo United Longhorns will play host to Smithson Valley .
Smithson Valley is now a 4A with the new alignment for 2010-2011 football
seasons.  I am sure San Antonio Reagan is content they do not have to
face Smithson in district or the playoffs. I am just saying.

They play September 3, 2010 at the U.I.S.D. Student Activities Center off
of Hwy 359.  A must see game. I will like to see how well Smithson can
handle the Laredo heat , and travel. Since it appears it will be one of
Smithson's longest trip during the regular season. Welcome Smithson to
what Laredo teams, and Del Rio must face each season.

WEEK TWO HAS THREE GAMES THAT SHOULD BE GOOD.

Del Rio vs Eagle Pass CC Winn in Eagle Pass mind you at the new
stadium Eagle Pass school district just built. I went by, and seen the
construction going up. It looks good .

This game will tell the rest of the district what Del Rio will bring to the
District dance.  A must watch must be game for sure. Not only is Del Rio
interesting so is CC WINN one of the most improved teams in UIL District
29 5 A . They might not win district in 2010. They will scare some of the
big teams in 29 5A, and could win five games in 2010. A must see must be
there game.

Alexander vs United South . United South is home (as if it matters for a
UISD school at SAC).

So many places so many things to talk about. Here in week two you will
see Alexanders defense take shape as a unit. United South the last three
years has one thing they have worked on . SPEEEEEED on both sides of
the ball. The young, hungry, big, fast 2010 Bulldog defense will have their
first district game against a tough Panther team that either will bring it or
be over run.

I like this game for a lot of reason. The QB's here are interesting to watch.
Both are young , both coming off a break out year.  I want to see the
strides both have made. I got to see Alexanders QB Brian Swain on their 7
on 7 in the valley this summer.

He has pedigree . His father was a receiver at Texas Tech, and Brian by
now knows any accomplishments on the grid iron each week are won
months before in work outs, and training for hours just to get better a little
bit at a time.

On the other hand United South is going to make strides this year. Facing
Alexander early gets the Panthers to bring their game for them to see how
good they are. No matter the outcome of this game United South wins big
time. I would say they will from this point take it to levels that will produce
"W"s in their season.

Cigarroa Vs Nixon . Nixon is home. Also does it matter who is home when
they play in the same stadium each week.

I like this game for all of the above. Two LISD programs on the go. Laredo
Cigarroa is much improved, and I feel they have one of the hardest
working head coach in Coach De Hoyos.  He is a fighter with smarts about
him that has you to consider that he was getting coached at high levels
during the last four years. He passed that to his coaching staff.

You see changes at their only feeder middle school. The incoming
freshman put on a show (linemen) in the new summer freshman league .
You can see the drive those players had came from their eight grade year.

Nixon . Wow new coach new attitude for the whole team, and the players
are coming out to play again. I see them working out here and there.

In this early game you will see what both coaching staffs have been
working on since January.  Crunch time.  Cigarroa has a lot to prove.
Nixon has a tradition to bring forth again. Two clashes of football wills .

This is a must see game. Both teams will bring it with all they have this
early in the season. Both trying to prove they belong among the top
teams. Both will have to prove it against each other first.

A win by Cigarroa would be big.  Be there if you can for this game.

For now watch how at the end the fourth place team making the playoff in
UIL District 29 5A could have a less victories and more defeats. The
fourth place team could get into the play offs with a 4 and 6 records. That
is how it may work out with having to many teams in one district.

The Rio Grand District got to love it . Support your high school team this
fall at either Kruger Field or SAC. Best $6 you may spend on great
football.
